FiLO Classical was founded in 2006 by Dave Rowell whilst still a student on the prestigious Tonmeister degree course at Surrey University. Following a year in industry under the supervision of award winning producer Alexander van Ingen, and working alongside renowned recording engineers Mike Hatch & Simon Eadon, Dave moved into the freelance world specialising in location recording and broadcasting classical music. His proficient technical abilities have also lent themselves to several opportunities as a guarantee engineer and in constructing a highly capable location recording rig.
As a recording engineer Dave has a reputation for excellent recorded sound with a calm and uncomplicated approach to all recording sessions. This has led to numerous successful recordings with a number being recognised with industry awards (BBC Music Magazine & Gramophone Awards amongst others). This philosophy has led to work all across Europe and a continuing relationship with artists with whom he has worked. In the recording studio he has worked with a wide variety of ensembles ranging from solo instruments to chamber and orchestral to opera encompassing repertoire from early music right through to new commissions.
In 2024 FiLO Classical was doubled in size when Caitlin Pittol-Neville came on board as a full-time assistant. Since graduating from the Tonmeister course at Surrey University in the summer of 2024 she has taken on a wide range of jobs from being a session assistant to taking the lead on editing projectsworking directly with artists and also picking up the ever critical de-noising and critical listening check side of things. Now a year in she’s an invaluable partner in the team and will no doubt be taking on engineering projects of her own before long.
